the image of God

What makes man unique among God’s creatures? Scripture reveals that God had a definite purpose when He reached the summit of His creative labors: “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. . . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he them” (Gen. 1:26-27). Note that man is made in God’s image, not as God’s image. There is something in man’s constitution that reflects the being and character of God, just as the image in a mirror is the reflection of the one looking into it. So we must look for the image of God in man.
